Mountaineer Dies In Avalanche
A tragic accident occurred on Prospectors Mountain in the Southern Teton Range on the first day of this week. Two local ski mountaineers were ascending the Apocalypse Couloir when a small slide came down from above and swept one of them a thousand feet downhill. He was found face down on the snow surface and is believed to have died of trauma. Our sincere condolences are extended to the friends and family of these two men.
The Apocalypse Couloir is a very thin chute with pitches that approach 50 degrees. It faces east and north is a channel for sluffing snow from overhanging sources.
